Ohio Flame visited the Military Family Center in Louisville, OH on July 27th to donate a custom Fire Pit that they have been collaborating on with them the past few weeks. Ohio Flame hopes that the custom Fire Pit will serve as a gathering place for veterans and first responders to relax around a calming wood fire.
Pegasus Farm has been providing therapeutic equestrian activities to veterans since 2007. With financial assistance from donors and foundations, they have served over 150 veterans. They have received nearly 5,000 hours of services dedicated to helping them overcome conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder, physical disabilities, traumatic brain injury, substance abuse, depression, and social isolation.
During this period of time, local Rotary Clubs were interested in developing ways to serve veterans and their families. The Rotaries met with these groups to identify their needs and formulate potential strategies. The Clubs applied to the Rotary International Foundation and received funding to purchase rehabilitation and exercise equipment to help veterans heal. In 2015, participating Rotary Districts approached Pegasus Farm asking if they would be willing to consider a partnership that would expand our veterans’ services to form the Military Family Center (MFC). Walsh University joined this collaboration to offer direct clinical services - physical therapy, occupational therapy, and clinical counseling - to veterans, first responders, and their families.
In 2017, these partners applied for funding through the Stark Community Foundation to purchase and remodel a 20 acre horse farm in Louisville, Ohio. Through the generosity of seven foundations, the farm was purchased and renovated. Equestrian services are currently available.
