Actual submission below:
Veterans Appreciation 2022 Submission from Denise Walsh on behalf of her Veteran, SGT Megan Wessels - Army.
"Megan joined the Army in 2008 as a way to help pay for college, but didn’t expect it to change her trajectory and purpose, for the rest of her life. After serving stateside, briefly in Germany, and completing a tour in the Middle East, Megan struggled with reintegration into civilian life. One of the ways she tried to cope was to help others. Shortly after returning home, Megan spent time at Camp Courageous in Iowa assisting adults with special needs and getting involved with Impact Equine, a horse rescue in Michigan. Adjustment was slow until a rescue pup named Bailey came along. After having her life saved by a service dog, she was able to soldier on and search for a new career that still offered her a chance to serve. After graduating from Lake Erie College, she found herself in front of high school students, trying to share her enthusiasm for learning. But, her passion for teaching and service didn’t stop there. Megan went on to achieve being a certified professional dog trainer with plans to help other veterans regain independence, peace, and freedom by focusing on service dog training and breeding. She is the proud founder of Mission Ready Retrievers, Ltd and she just welcomed her first litter in the beginning of November. Their goal is as follows, “Whether it’s taking on the life-saving mission of being a service dog, encouraging others through therapy dog work, or striving to be the best family dog in town, Mission Ready Retrievers are ready to report for duty.”
